I contacted !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! this morning, and they apologized for the situation and gave me my deposit back. So the search continues. I’m now only looking at 2006-2008 S models at the advice of the tech who looked at the fucked 2005 non-S 997. I will also only be looking at cars in rad colors. Red, yellow, green, purple, blue.

Kinja'd!!!

I also went on a disappointment fueled shopping spree last night, haha. For the M3, I bought all of the aging bits. New roundels, fender lights, trunk struts, new center console, new glasses tray, and a new plain license plate frame.

For the Ranger I got Bilstein shocks all the way around, and a very similar wheel and tire setup to the pic below. Pacer 164's with BF Goodrich K02 AT tires.

Kinja'd!!!

I wish it would all get here today so I could strap everything on this weekend.

Happy Friday, I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend.

Ok, that does it. I will always get the PPI for cars this old now.

Aways S over non S when it comes to Porsche... Unless you’ve got the dough for that sexy sexy Turbo badge... Or GT*.

Damn, that last one could be it. I should have mentioned that I’m only after a RWD model, and turn my nose up at any racing stripes or other (what I deem to be)weird appearance mods.

Ya gotta. I’ve spent a lot of money on PPIs but they are always worth it. This just happens to be a perfect example.

ahhh i gotcha, im in chicago so the majority of search results around here are the awd models, atleast for those model years and with a manual. but yeah that last blue one is pretty sweet

That was a sobering read on the more realistic side of buying a used 911. PPI is now for sure on my list of future used German sports car purchases

There’s something very right about a yellow 911.

Glad you got your deposit back. Will be interesting to see if that car is auctioned off and pops up for sale somewhere else.

Care to share the VIN, or maybe a generic link to a place where one can find info on a silver 911?

“2006-2008" So, the consensus is that the IMS bearings in these are much, much less problematic?

Kinja'd!!! Tripper > davesaddiction @ opposite-lock.com

Kinja'd!!!1

He didn’t mention anything about IMS. When I mentioned it he kind of shrugged it off saying that they worry about that more on cars that haven’t been driven much.

It’s my unprofessional opinion that 911 IMS failures, BMW VANOS issues...I’m sure there are a few others with different cars are “boogymen”. Things that have been blown way out of proportion via the internet. I hear people talk about them at C&C and other car events like it’s the end of the world. Then then I see those same people hop in a Civic, Focus, WRX when they’re leaving.

Don’t get me wrong things like those are certainly a consideration when shopping, but if the PPI comes back good I don’t worry about it. I’m anal when it comes to maintenance.

Most people with German performance cars, keep up with maintenance and do the preventative stuff and drive the piss out of their cars. The rest don’t and forever talk about what a piece of shit XYZ German car was.

After owning a few, I’m much more comfortable with a proven driver at 80k+ miles than I am with a low mileage garage queen. In my experience, most of the money is spent in the 50-70k mileage neighborhood. So, I’m looking toward a higher mileage 997.1 C2S in a loud color now.
